Abstract

874,140. Gas-liquid contact apparatus. STAGE, H. May 25, 1959 [July 28, 1958], No. 17781/59. Class 55 (2). A gas-liquid contact apparatus comprises an exchange chamber formed of a disc-shaped base column plate 1 and boundary walls 2 provided with a partition wall 3 dividing the chamber into a first compartment 4 and a second compartment 5, the first compartment being in communication with the second compartment through one or more apertures 10 between the partition wall and the boundary wall, a pipe inlet 6 located in the first compartment and a pipe outlet 11 in the second compartment, there being also provided a dipping jacket 7 of cylindrical form of substantially the same diameter as that of the base plate placed on the base plate in a coaxial manner and having a lower serrated edge. Preferably the boundary wall is substantially perpendicular to the base plate and the partition wall is substantially perpendicular to the base plate. The partition wall may be disposed along a diameter of the base plate with openings at one or both ends (see Figs. 4 and 2). Outlet pipe 11 may pass through the base plate of the second compartment and may be contained within dipping jacket 7. In a modification (not shown) the upper edges of the outlet pipe are splayed out. Partition wall 3 may be provided with a hollow portion which serves as a weir over which liquid flows into the outlet.
