Abstract

874,107. Percussive tools. CLIMAX ROCK DRILL & ENGINEERING Ltd. Dec. 24, 1958 [Dec. 24, 1957], No. 40079/57. Class 124. A fluid operated percussive rock drill comprises three or more hammer cylinders disposed in a group to drill a single hole and having a connection for one or more tubes connected end-to-end, by which they may be rotated and supplied with operating fluid. As shown, three pneumatic percussive drills may be held together by clamps 34, 36 at their front ends and rigidly connected at their rear ends to a manifold 20 which, in turn, is connected to the final tube 18 of a series of similar tubes. Compressed air may be supplied through the tubes 18 to the manifold and then to each of the drill cylinders, a part of the air being bled off and directed through passages 30 to the working face. Exhaust air is directed through openings 32 in the walls of the drills. The hammer cylinders may be enclosed in a single housing. The tubes 18 may be connected to a rotary drive so that tubes and drills are rotated.
