Abstract

872,661. Liquefied gas converters. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Aug. 17, 1959 [Aug. 18, 1958], No. 26560/58. Class 8(2). Recharging of a liquefied gas e.g., oxygen converter (not shown), without depressurizing is effected by withdrawing liquid oxygen at substantially atmospheric pressure from an insulated storage vessel 10, Fig. 1, passing it through a duct 14 to a pressure vessel 13 warming to effect pressurization thereof and thereafter using the gas pressure to force liquid oxygen through a hose 22 and a coupling 23 connected to the converter. As shown the pressure vessel 13 is uninsulated and warming is effected by ambient heat. In a modification using an insulated vessel 13, Fig. 2, heat is conducted from the atmosphere through a bridge 25 spanning the insulation space 24. In a further modification warming is effected by an electric heating element immersed in the liquid within the vessel which is fully insulated. In all embodiments the vessel 13 has a pressure gauge 16, a manual relief valve 17 and an automatic relief valve 18.
