Abstract
A polyurethane adduct comprises a hydrolysable salt of antimony as a storage stabilizing and cross-linking cure accelerating agent. ("Polyurethane adducts" are the reaction products of diisocyanates and polyols). Antimony chlorides, particularly trichloride and perchloride, are especially advantageous. In the examples the adduct is prepared by reacting a polyethylene glycol/neopentyl glycol/adipate alkyd resin in turn with naphthalene diisocyanate and toluylene diisocyanate dissolved in toluene and dichlorobenzene. Films were prepared by adding antimony perchloride and trichloride in methyl ethyl ketone and glycol mono-ethyl ether acetate respectively to portions of the adduct and allowing to stand at room temperature followed, in the latter case, by curing at 80 DEG C. Samples of the adduct and antimony compound kept in bottles developed only a surface skin of resin, the bulk remaining liquid. Without the antimony compound a gel-like mass resulted. Specifications 858,096 and 872,568 are referred to.
