Abstract

871,728. Sound producing mechanisms for soft toys. STONE & CO. Ltd., H. G. Feb. 22, 1960 (Feb: 23, 1959], No. 6125/59. Class 132(3). A sound producing and limb waving mechanism for incorporation in a soft toy animal or doll comprises two boards 1 and 2 which can be pressed together against the action of a spring 8 to actuate a bellows and reed sound producer 9 and wave the end 12 of a rod 11 which may be inserted in an ear, the head, the tail, an arm, leg or paw of the toy. As shown, the board 1 is mounted hingedly, by means of a piece of adhesive tape 7 and location between pieces of hardboard 4 and 5, on a piece of wood 3 secured to board 2. The cranked end 14 of rod 11 is pivotally connected to a lug 15 secured to the board 1, the middle part of the rod is journalled in apertures 13 in a bracket 10 secured to the board 2, and the rod's other end 12 is bent so that it is waved on pressing the boards together. The axis of the rod 11 may be arranged parallel to the longitudinal edges of the boards 1, 2 and the boards 1, 2 may be of hardboard or cardboard. In another embodiment, the boards 1, 2 and the piece of wood 3 are replaced by bent metal strips hinged together by means of a conventional hinge. According to the Provisional Specification, a spacing tube may be provided on the rod or wire between its bent end and the bracket.
