Abstract
The invention comprises bis- and tris-[b -(2-methyl - 4 - chlorophenoxy)ethyl] phosphites. They may be prepared by reacting one mole of PCl3 with 3 moles of b -(2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxy)ethanol in an inert solvent. In the absence of an acid acceptor, the bis-phosphite is formed, while by using three moles of a tertiary amine acid acceptor, the tris-compound is obtained. The products are used as herbicides (see Group VI). Specifications 671,153 and 771,866 are referred to.ALSO:Herbicidal compositions comprise bis- or tris-[beta - (2 - methyl - 4 - chlorophenoxy) ethyl] phosphite and a carrier such as a mineral silicate or water. Surface-active agents may be present e.g. an ethylene oxide/castor oil condensate. Benzene is also present in exemplified compositions. Specifications 671,153 and 771,866 are referred to.
