Abstract
871,603. Metal-vapour converters. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. July 14, 1958 [July 13, 1957], No. 22499/58. Class 39(1). A vacuum-tight electrode lead-in for mercury vapour rectifiers having an insulator 2 which is bell-shaped narrowing above towards a contact point with a lead-in pin 3 and having a sheath-shaped auxiliary electrode 8 arranged about the lead-in pin, is characterized in that a tubular insulator 5 is arranged in such a way that a long narrow gap is formed between the pin 3 and the inner surface of the narrowing part of the bell-shaped insulator 2 and that a part 8a of the auxiliary electrode 8 is beaded over and lies on the inner surface of the narrowing part of the insulator 2. As shown, the leadin pin 3 supports an anode 7, and the auxiliary electrode 8 is a grid supported from terminals 13 provided with insulators 12. The insulator 2 is heated by resistance coils 10 to prevent condensation of mercury vapour on its inner surface.
