Abstract
Stiff sheet material, suitable for use in the formation of highly fire-resistant panels, tiles, ceiling and wall boards, is formed by shaping a mixture of calcium sulphate hemihydrate, chopped glass fibre in an amount lying between 6% and 7,2% of the total weight of the mixture and between 23% and 100% of the weight of the plaster, water, a foaming agent, a water-miscible aminoplast resin precondensate and a hardener therefor, and subjecting the formed sheet to heat to remove surplus water and cure the resin. The aminoplast may be of the urea-formaldehyde or melamine-formaldehyde types, and the hardeners specified are ammonium chloride, aluminium sulphate and hydrochloric acid. The specified foaming agent is "Teepol" (Registered Trade Mark).ALSO:Stiff sheet material, suitable for use in the formation of highly fire-resistant panels, tiles, ceiling and wall boards, is formed by shaping a mixture of calcium sulphate hemihydrate, chopped glass fibre in an amount lying between 6 and 7,2% of the total weight of the mixture and between 23 and 100% of the weight of the plaster, water, a foaming agent, a water-miscible aminoplast resin precondensate and a hardener therefor, and heating the formed sheet to removed surplus water and cure the resin. The aminoplast may be of the urea-formaldehyde or melamine-formaldehyde types, and the hardeners specified are ammonium chloride, aluminium sulphate and hydrochloric acid. The specified foaming agent is "Teepol" (Registered Trade Mark). Before shaping, the mixture may be introduced into a conventional mixing machine e.g. of the paddle type and after intimate mixing is poured or otherwise extruded into a mould or other shaping means where light pressure as well as heat is applied.
