Abstract

870,709. Belt fasteners. TERRE DE LABRADOR. July 3, 1959 [July 15, 1958], No. 22866/59. Class 80 (1). Interengaging U-shaped members 2 of a conveyer belt hinged fastener are provided with a series of resilient cover plates 3 which extend from the upper side of one of the members 2 to the upper side of the other to cover the spaces in the hinge through which dust may pass. The plates 3, which may be of stainless steel, are spotwelded at 5 to the edge of the members 2 furthest from the hinge pin 1 and are additionally secured thereto by the rivets or screws used to attach the members 2 to the belt ends. If only one series of cover plates 3 is used they are attached to the member 2 trailing with respect to the direction of movement of the belt and when two series are used they are arranged to overlap those on the leading member. Additional sealing is provided by arranging the plates 3 in lateral overlapping relation. Preferably each element 2 is formed of a flexible succession of elements connected with each other by frangible portions 2b on one side only of the fastener and each cover plate is secured to one of the elements of the member and may overlap the frangible portion 2b.
