Abstract

870,632. Lubrication. AUTO RESEARCH CORPORATION. May 7, 1958 [May 8, 1957] No. 14677/58. Class 12 (3). In a mist lubrication device a compressed gaseous fluid, e.g. air, fed on to a dehumidifying baffle 15 and through a cylindrical filter J in an air chamber C clamped to 'the head B of a lubrication unit A is led to a passage 41 leading through a constant pressure regulator 43, 46 adjustable by a hand screw N, to a chamber 62 which communicates, through passages 63, 64, Fig. 6, with a peripheral groove 65 in a solenoid value R operable by the machine being lubricated. When the solenoid is energized the compressed - air passes through the solenoid valve 69, 70 and passages 76, 77 in the valve housing to a passage 80 in the head B leading to a peripheral groove 81 in, and a converging annular passage 92 around, the nozzle 90 of an aspirator P. Emission of compressed-air from an outlet 93 in the aspirator induces oil, supplied from a passage 148 to a central passage 151 in the nozzle P, to mix with the discharged air to form a heavy oil mist in the inlet portion X of a chamber 94. The air pressure in the chamber 94 is applied to the oil in a reservoir D secured to the lubricator head B to force oil through a cylindrical filter K and up through a central bore 127 in a rod 117 to an adjustable needle valve Q. The oil then passes to a sight feed unit M and on to the passage 148 leading to the aspirator P. Undesirable heavy oil particles are removed from the mist by a collector baffle S in the compartment 94, the mist being delivered to a lubricating line through an outlet adaptor 95. A pressure gauge L communicates with the chamber 62. In a modification, Fig. 10, the collector S has a transversely upwardly-bowed condensate gutter 203 having a central opening 206 to receive the rod 117. In a further modification, Fig. 13, the collector comprises a pivotally mounted double plate 250, the upper section 251, having an opening 254 for the tube 117, being pressed downwardly against a coil spring 25 by an adjustable screw 262. The collector plates shown are solid, they may however be made of perforate metal, or vary fine wire mesh screening.
