Abstract

870,577. Railway vehicle undercarriages. MAK MASCHINENBAU KIEL A.G. Nov. 10, 1958, No. 35997/58. Class 103(6). In a railway vehicle e.g. a diesel locomotive, each longitudinal side of the chassis 1 Fig. 1, is provided with a slide surface 17 which resiliently engages a slide member 10 carried by a cantilever beam 13 projecting from a tubular side frame 14 of the bogie and each end of each of the bogie wheel axles 22 is carried in a support 21, connected at its inner end to a bracket 23 of the bogie frame by means of a pivot 24 and at its outer end to a vertical carrier 28 rigid with the side frame 14, the carrier extending through an extension of the support 21. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the surface 17 is provided on the underside of a trough-shaped member 4 connected by rubber-metal spring assemblies 7, 9 and bolts 8 to transverse webs 3 supporting a top plate 2 welded to the chassis 1. The assemblies 7, 9, are very resilient in the vertical direction but have a high degree of rigidity in the horizontal direction. Disposed between the plate 2 and the member 4 are helical springs 6 retained by locating studs 5. The slide member 10 is held in a box-like guide 11 and is secured to the beam 13 by means of bolts 12, shims 16 being provided between the beam and guide. The outer side of the troughshaped member 4 is provided with a clamping rail described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown) engaging under the guide to prevent the chassis from lifting off the bogie. Referring to Figs. 6 and 8 the vertical carrier 28 extends downwardly through an extension 19 of the axle support 21, vertical movement of the carrier relative to the extension 19 being limited by stops 18. The carrier 28 is positioned between rubber-metal disc assemblies 31, 32 carried in the extension 19 through the agency of adjusting screws 34 secured in openings in the end plates 29 of the assemblies 31, 32 and in a bore 33 in the carrier. The assemblies are - pre-compressed by removable bolts as described with reference to Fig. 9 (not shown). A helical spring 27 is positioned between the support 21 and a spring support plate 35 having grooves 36 engaging projections on a saddle 37 on the side frame 14. 'Lateral displacement of the spring is prevented by a bolt 38 engaging the plate 35. The upper end of the spring 27 engages an annular groove in the plate 35. The side frames 14 are connected together by cross tubes as described in Fig. 10 (not shown).
