Abstract
870,329. Capacitors. CORNING GLASS WORKS. March 2, 1960 [March 11, 1959], No. 7410/60. Class 37. [Also in Group XXIII] To seal the edge of a capacitor 13 comprising layers of metal foil interleaved with projecting 'layers of glass, the edge is passed between electrodes 28, 29 across which is formed an arc which passes in a horseshoe path about the edges to be sealed, the electrodes being fed from a damped wave source, the presence of the capacitor acting as a load to cause the arc to be extinguished in each cycle. In the arrangement shown, each capacitor is carried in a holder 12 on a moving band. Each holder has a cam 14 which closes contacts 15, 16 as it passes to complete the circuit from a source X, Y to the primary of a transformer T, the secondary of which is coupled, through choke coils RFC, RFC1, to a parallel-tuned circuit, comprising quenched gaps 22, coupled in turn by capacitors 25, 26 to the primary of a transformer T1, the secondary of which feeds the spark gap.
