Abstract
A stable high-temperature lime refractory material comprises the following composition by weight:- ..CaO.85 to 97%, ..Fe2O3.1 to 10%, .and.MgO.2 to 5%, where the CaO may be derived from finely ground high-calcium hydrated lime Ca(OH)2 or carbonate CaCO3, the Fe2O3 may be derived from pyrophoric iron or such compounds as the oxalate, citrate and nitrate, and the MgO from hydrated dolomite, dolomitic limestone or dolomite. The process of making may include the dead burning of lime in the presence of MgO and decomposible iron compound or heating the thoroughly mixed materials, preferably crushed to 20-80 micron particle size (e.g. by wet ball-milling), at 2500 DEG to 3000 DEG F. The mixture may also be extruded in bricks or pressed in a mould and heated at 2600 DEG to 2800 DEG F. prior to removing and cooling. Preferably the resulting dobies are re-crushed and re-moulded prior to re-heating at 2600 DEG to 3000 DEG F. Specifications 663,891 and 663,893 are referred to.
