Abstract

868,505. Baling-presses. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. April 20, 1959 [May 2, 1958], No. 13382/59. Class 94(1). An agricultural pick-up baling press forms high density pellets of hay, &c. which retain their shape without binding after ejection and may be fed to cattle as formed by the machine. Hay is fed by a conventional pick-up cylinder to a known type of auger conveyer 34 and is forced into a compression tube 18 by fingers 96 moving in an orbital path 97, Fig. 4. The fingers produce some initial compression, and retraction of the hay is prevented by spring members 177, 177a. The compressing piston 72 is reciprocated by a crank 55 on a shaft 52, the latter bearing two flywheels 61 round which pass drive belts 65 from motor pulleys 46. The belts may slip on the flywheels if the piston should be obstructed. The pellets 127 are forced into a tube 126 split longitudinally into four sections, the tube cross-section being variable by hydraulic cylinder, and crank means 155, 159, 162 to alter the compression of the pellets. A tube 171, 172 conducts the pellets to the rear of the machine for discharge on to a trailer, &c.
