Abstract
868,357. Comparison systems. PERKINELMER CORPORATION. Feb. 12, 1960 [Feb. 19, 1959], No. 5088/60. Class 97(1) A radiation comparison system has part of the optical path for the sample beam extending from a focus of an ellipsoid to a reflector on the surface of said ellipsoid and from there to the second focus at which the object may be placed; the path then continues to a second elliptical reflector having at least the same second focus as the first, both reflectors being arranged so that they are not intersected by either major axis. In the system shown a reference beam of radiation 10 and a sample beam 12 are emitted from a source 14 and enter a monochromator housing 16. Before beam 12 enters said housing it is reflected by a plane mirror 18 and focused on to a second plane mirror 20 placed at a focus of an ellipsoid 22 on the surface of which two mirrors 24, 28 are placed. The light passes from mirror 20 via mirror 24 to the second focus of the ellipsoid, at which a sample 26 is placed, and from there to mirror 28. It is then reflected by a second reflecting surface on mirror 18 to the housing 16.
