Abstract
867,766. Gas or electric hot plate stoves. ROBERTSHAW-FULTON CONTROLS CO. Oct. 15, 1957 [Oct. 15, 1956], No. 32233/57. Classes 39(3) and 126. [Also in Group XIII] A gas or electric heater 16 for heating a cooking vessel has a central temperatureresponsive device 53 comprising thermal fluid in a bulb 52, which is supported on a spiral coil 50 of capillary tube leading therefrom within a cup-shaped shield 58. The bulb 52 carries an annular collar 54 telescoping loosely within the shield 58 so that the bulb 52 can tilt and is biased by the coil 50 against the vessel. The capillary tube passes through a hole in the base of the shield 58 to pass through a hollow rod 64 which has a reduced top part attached rigidly to the shield 58 to support it. The rod 64 passes through aligned apertures in upper and lower flanges 78, 80 of a bracket rigidly attached to a cooking range, and a coiled spring 96 around the rcd 64 between an annular collar 94 fixed thereon and the lower flange 80 biases the shield 58 upwards. Inwardly bent flanges 90, 92 of a wall 76 of the bracket serve to limit vertical movement of the collar 94 and hence of the rod. The capillary tube extends at 48 to a switch 28 mounted a panel 40 and having a control knob 44 setting the switch to a desired temperature. The capillary tube is locked within the hollow rod 64 at its slotted lower end 70 by bending a segment to form a crimped end 72. The collar 54 on the bulb 52 has at the top a flange 56 sloping down outwardly to deflect spillage from the vessel outside the cup-shaped shield 58.
