Abstract
867,364. Statistical records. DECCA RECORD CO. Ltd. Feb. 12, 1959 [Feb. 12, 1958], No. 4666/58. Class 106 (1). A data transmission system including a punched paper tape is characterized in that successive words on the tape have their digits interleaved. As described, three-digit words are recorded on punched paper tape in interleaved form, the first word being recorded in positions 1, 9 and 17, Fig. 1, the second word in positions 4, 12 and 20 and so on, and the tape is read by three sets of heads so arranged that all three digits of a word are read simultaneously. In one embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the reading-heads are controlled by electronic gates so that only every third digit-position on the tape is read (that is the heads first read word 1 in positions 1, 9, 17 and then word 2 in positions 4, 12, 20) and in a second embodiment, Fig. 5, the electronic gates are replaced by mechanical shutters formed by suitably dimensioned rotating cylinders 64 which only allow light from sources 65 to reach the tape via slits 60, 66 every third digit-position on the tape. In a further embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) data relating to aircraft bearings is punched in interleaved form at a transmitter, transmitted by a normal telegraphic link re-punched on a tape at a receiving station and then read by using a number of sets of heads to control visual display equipment. Specifications 744,640 and 867,361 are referred to.
