Abstract

A moulding composition comprises a polymerizable mixture of (i) a particulate copolymer comprising one or more C2-C4 alkanol esters of methacrylic acid and one or more C2-C12 alkanol esters of acrylic acid and (ii) a monomeric polymerizable fluid containing a mixture of C2-C18 alkanol esters of acrylic and/or methacrylic acid. In addition to the above components the copolymer and/or the polymerizable fluid may comprise a cross-linking agent, e.g. an ester of acrylic and/or methacrylic acid with a polyhydric alcohol. Also present may be a plasticizer, e.g. esters of acetyl citric, phthalic, sebacic and myristic acid, and a polymerization catalyst, e.g. benzoyl peroxide. The compositions are polymerized to form dental protheses and artificial tissue material for the human body. In the example a copolymer of isopropyl methacrylate, ethyl and amyl acrylates and diglycol dimethacrylate is formed into a paste with a mixture of butyl acrylate, ethyl and octyl methacrylates and glycol dimethacrylate.
