Abstract

867,135. Tyre vulcanizing presses. CHRISTIANSEN & MEYER. June 17, 1959 [July 23, 1958], No. 20832/59. Class 87(2). A tyre press comprises a fixed lower mould half 2 and heating plate 4, upper movable half 1 and heating plate 3, and an inflatable shaping member 16 which is fixed at its lower end by clamping rings 11, 13 and is moved at its upper end by rings 18, 19 connected to a piston rod 6. The outer diameter of the lower part of the upper ring is made greater than the upper part of the lower ring. It is stated that this helps to remove the tyre from the lower mould half. In operation, with the mould open, vacuum is applied to the member 16 to bring it to the position shown dotted, a tyre canvass is placed on the lower mould half 2, and the upper half 1 lowered on to the rings 18, 19. Compressed air is then supplied to the member 16, and the mould fully closed. The tyre is vulcanized by the plates 3, 4 and by supplying steam through a passage 29 to the member 16. After vulcanization, the mould is opened, and the rings 18, 19 moved upwardly. When the rings have completed their stroke the member 16 is completely withdrawn from the tyre. Vacuum is applied to the member 16 to allow the lower bead ring of the tyre to pass over it. The upper mould half is then moved axially, and an ejector ring 25 pushes the tyre out of the upper mould half on to a grid 27.
