An anion-selective membrane, e.g. of kraft parchment paper impregnated with guanidinemelamine-formaldehyde, or with guanidineacetone-formaldehyde resin and cured, is made less brittle &c. by incorporating therein a highboiling, water-soluble alcohol, e.g. glycerine or ethylene glycol. A neutral salt, e.g. sodium nitrate or sodium chloride may also be included.
