Class 100(2) A method of preparing printing plates which comprises the steps of applying an ink or other acid resisting material to selected areas of a metal plate, etching the portions of the plate unprotected by the material, applying a'powdered acid resist to the unetched portion of the plate, consolidating the powdered resist material to protect the unetched portion and the edges thereof and again etching is characterised in that the consolidation of the powdered resist material is effected by subjecting the material to the action of a solvent. thereof or in vapour form, and in that the application of the solvent is effected by placing the plate, resist uppermost, beneath a sheet of porous material impregnated with the solvent. The resist may consist of dragon's blood, bitumen or resin and the solvent may be ethylene dichloride, tri-chloroethylene, carbon tetra-chloride, chloroform or ether. The de-greasing effect of the solvent may be minimised by adding thereto a small proportion of an oil.
