865,900. Printing on curved surfaces. ERICSSON TELEPHONES Ltd. Aug. 11, 1959 [Aug. 8, 1958], No. 25436/58. Class 100(2) Apparatus for marking wire 10 comprises a nib with an annular aperture 11 through which the wire passes, the nib being free to move radially but not axially or rotationally, means for supplying the nib with marking liquid, means to move the wire lengthwise through the nib, and means to urge successive points on the inner periphery of the nib into contact with an adjacent point on the wire. The nib comprises outer and inner members 12, 13 having conical openings to admit the wire 10. The size of the aperture 11 is varied, to vary the width of the mark produced, by screwing or unscrewing the inner member 13 in the outer member 12. The outer member 12 is secured by a set screw 21 to a carrier 18 slidably mounted in an annular plate 24. The wire passes through a rotatable shaft 30 secured to a guide 31 and a member 32 carrying a magnet 33 which attracts a soft iron ring 20 to draw the nib into contact with the wire. A pump, not shown, supplies marking liquid to a reservoir 15 through a pipe 16a, while a pipe 17a leads to a tank, not shown.
