Abstract

865,612. Rivets; locking nuts &c. NATIONAL SCREW & MANUFACTURING CO. June 11, 1958 [June 11, 1957], No. 18641/58. Class 89(1). A rivet for insertion and clinching from one side of a workpiece comprises a bolt B, Fig. 2, having a head 11 and a shank 10 with a screwedpart 35 and a driving-recess 21, a nut E engaging the screwed-part, and a sleeve CD between the bolt-head and the nut. The nut has a head 15 with driving-slots 22, a cylindrical-body 14, and a conical-end 16 co-operating with a tapered-bore 13 in the sleeve. Body 14, sleeve CD and head 11 are of substantially equal diameter. Sleeve CD may be in one or two pieces, piece C being expanded by head-surface 12 as the nut is tightened on the bolt. The bolt-end including recess 21 finally breaks off at weakened-neck 23. In a modification, sleeve C, Fig. 5, is spread by a coned-end 12 of sleeve D. The nut is locked to the bolt by its end 16 being pressed against the bolt-threads by sleeve-portion D.
