In sound reproduction apparatus in which signals from a single transmission channel are fed to two sub-channels, each connected to a corresponding loud-speaker system, the subchannels are such that the frequency response characteristic of the first (high-tone) subchannel progressively increases with frequency over substantially the whole audio-frequency range while that of the second (low-tone) subchannel progressively decreases, and the maximum response of the second sub-channel at the lower limit of the range is less (preferably 8 to 10 db. less) than the maximum response of the first sub-channel at the upper limit of the range. The desired frequency characteristics of the sub-channels may be obtained by including in the sub-channels amplifiers having gain varying with frequency, or filter networks, or both. The high-tone loud-speaker system is preferably disposed on the left of the low-tone loud-speaker system.
