[Also in Group XXXVII] The end of an arm, e.g. of a power-operated personnel boom, horizontally pivoted to another arm horizontally pivoted to a base vertically pivoted on a platform is moved in three dimensions by motors, e.g. electric or fluid-pressure, acting at the pivots and controlled by three control devices 52, 58, 46 through a single handle 90, Fig. 2, pivoted at 92 on a bracket 88 rotatable, e.g. through sleeve 84, on a sleeve 66 pivotally mounted at 72, Fig. 3, on a valve housing 40. On turning the handle in the horizontal plane, bracket 88 through pivoted link 100, ball joint 106, pivoted link 108, knuckle 118 and link 122 moves linearly or rotatably a switch or valve 46 controlling supply or exhaust ports 48, 50 for one of the motors. Movement of the handle in a vertical plane about pivot 92 through pivoted rod 94 actuates a second switch or valve 58 for a second motor. Pulling or pushing the handle in the plane of Fig. 2 pivots the sleeve at 72 and through link 76 actuates switch or valve 52 of a third motor. The actuating-rods of the switches or valves and a platform mounting the sleeve 66 may be of electrically insulating material. The rotary valves or switches are moved by rack-andpinion or cam assemblies.
