Abstract

Flame-resistant compositions comprise a polymer or copolymer of olefines or of styrene with a molecular weight of at least 10,000; at least one halogenated polymer or copolymer of at least one olefine, halogenated rubber or halogenated polychloroprene containing 15 to 50,1. by weight of halogen and with a melting point of at least 40 DEG C.; and from 5 to 25% by weight based on the total composition of antimony trioxide. High pressure polyethylene, and low pressure polyethylene and polypropylene, and polystyrene, and chlorinated polyethylene, polypropylene, and a chlorinated copolymer of ethylene and propylene, or polytrifluorochloroethylene and polytetrafluoroethylene are specified, and additives such as carbon black, kaolin, talc or dyestuffs and stabilizers such as phenyl-b -naphthylamine, di-b -naphthyl-p-phenylene di-amine or 4 : 41-thio-bis-(6tbutyl-m-cresol) may be present. The composition may be moulded or extruded to shaped articles such as electrical insulators or tubes, and the physical properties of the material are not impaired.
