Abstract

The invention comprises ethers of the general formula: <FORM:0865313/IV (b)/1> (in which R represents a straight or branched alkylene chain having 1-4 carbon atoms and Y represents a nitrogen atom forming part of a ring system) and acid addition salts thereof, and the preparation of these bases by reacting 4-methyl-5, 7-dihydroxycoumarin with a compound of the formula HalRY (where Hal represents a halogen atom) in an anhydrous organic oxygen-containing solvent, e.g. isopropyl alcohol. Illustrative products are 4-methyl-5, 7-bis-(b -morpholine-ethoxy)- coumarin, 4-methyl-5, 7-bis-(g -morpholine-propoxy)- coumarin, 4-methyl-5, 7-bis-(b -piperidine-ethoxy)- coumarin and 4-methyl-5, 7-bis-(g -piperidine-propoxy)- coumarin.ALSO:A pharmaceutical preparation comprises an ether of the formula <FORM:0865313/VI/1> (in which R represents a straight or branched alkylene chain having 1-4 carbon atoms and Y represents a nitrogen atom forming part of a ring system) or an acid addition salt thereof, together with a pharmaceutical carrier. The preparation may be in the form of tablets, linctuses, syrups, capsules or lozenges. Specified salts are hydrobromides, hydriodides, methosulphates, neutral sulphates, acetates, tartrates, benzoates and salicylates.
