Abstract
865,109. Laminates. SALARIYA, G. S., and BEACHAM, J. F. June 5,1957 [March 5, 1956], No. 6889/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 140. [Also in Groups XV and XVIII] A laminated moulded article comprises a thermoplastic layer and a fibrous backing layer, one surface being in relief and the other hollow, the thermoplastic layer having a printed representation applied thereto while in sheet form and subsequently moulded to a shape which fits the relief side of the fibrous layer. The thermoplastic layer may be of cellulose acetate, nitrocellulose, polyethylene or polystyrene. The backing layer may be of fibreboard. An adhesive, e.g. polystyrene, may be provided between the two layers. The backing layer and thermoplastic layer may be moulded to complementary shapes before laminating them together, or the thermoplastic layer in sheet form may be softened and applied to the preformed backing, e.g. by vacuum-forming. The printed representation may be applied by the method of Specification 865,110. The thermoplastic material may be white, or the unprinted side may be backed up with white ink. Articles in accordance with the invention may be used as advertising devices. According to the Provisional Specification, the thermoplastic sheet need not be printed but may be plain.
