Abstract

864,493. Rotary compressors. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. June 16, 1959 [July 18, 1958], No. 23099/58. Class 110 (2). In a sealed motor-driven compressor unit 4, 6 for a refrigerator in which the compressor 6 discharges refrigerant into the casing 2 of the unit, a frangible or flexible valve 50 is disposed between the interior of the casing and the compressor inlet 32. The valve 50 is made of mild steel sheet and is adapted to open to enable the suction side of the circuit and the evaporator 36 to be evacuated. The valve 50 is ruptured or flexed to connect the casing 2 to the said suction side when the pressure thereacross exceeds a given value. When this happens a one-way valve 38 in the suction side closes and a motor starter relay 52 is actuated to stop the motor 4. The valve 50 is held in position by a spring clip 54.
