Abstract
1,098,030. Compressors. CARRIER CORPORATION. Nov. 1, 1965 [Nov. 25, 1964], No.46167/65. Heading F1N. In a hermetically sealed refrigerant compressor 2, having compression pistons 20 reciprocated by a crank-shaft 15 driven by an electric motor 13 disposed in a suction compartment 7 separated from the crank-case compartment 8 by a partition 6, a passage 45 in the crank-shaft 15 interconnects the two compartments and is provided with a pressure responsive valve 46 which operates to close the passage when the pressure in the suction compartment 7 exceeds the pressure in the crankcase 8. Two or more compressors are arranged to be connected in parallel to an inlet header 50 and an outlet header 52, and in such an arrangement the valves 46 prevent the pressure in one of the crank-cases 8 exceeding the pressure in the others and thereby forcing lubricant therein through a lubricant level equalizing line 55 into a crank-case at a lower pressure. Each suction compartment 7 is connected to its corresponding crank-case compartment 8 by a small bleed orifice 42 which allows lubricant collected in the suction compartment to return to the crank-case. The bleed orifice 42 may contain a valve.
