Abstract
864,481. Valves. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO. Ltd. Feb. 12, 1959 [Dec. 3, 1957], No. 37687/57. Class 135. A thermally actuated safety valve for a liquid fuel burner comprises a bellows 2, Fig. 1, connected by a capillary tube 1 to a phial (not shown) located at the point where excess heat may occur. Upon expansion of the bellows 2 the rod 4 is depressed to overcome a toggle mechanism comprising blades 10a, 10b loaded by a spring member 10 and so close the valve member 5 on the seat 6. The toggle mechanism 10, 10a, 10b now holds the valve closed and reopening is effected by means of a tool or probe inserted through one or other of the tapped holes 11 to move the toggle mechanism to its other position. In a modification, Fig. 3, a lever 15 is attached to the blade 10b and co-operates with a pusher button 13 for moving the valve to the open position. The lever 15 also determines the position of a spring-loaded plunger 20 which acts on switch 17, 19 in the circuit of an alarm or indicating device.
