Abstract

863,896. Temperature measuring devices. ROSS, R. S., and MATTHEWS, C. H. C. Jan. 11, 1960, No. 883/60. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XL (c)] A temperature-sensitive circuit in a measuring device comprises two transistors T1 and T2 with their emitters coupled together and feedbacks connected between each base and collector, a temperature dependent resistor R2 which is connected to the base of one, T1, and a current-sensitive visual indicating device J, e.g. a moving coil meter, or operating relay connected between the two collectors. The apparatus can be used for rapid measurement of body temperatures or of temperature variations in buildings &c. when alarms or corrective devices can be activated if necessary. In the circuit which is D.C. supplied there are three switches S2A, S2B, S2C, which are moved together, and when on contact a, with on/off switches S1 closed, the apparatus is in use. With S2 switches on contact c, resistors R5 and R6 can be adjusted so that the voltage across the transistors can be maintained at a predetermined value during the battery life. With S2 switches on contact b, resistors R4, R8 and R11 are adjusted so that greatest accuracy of indication is obtained at a desired temperature. The embodiment of the device is portable and has external switches for S1, S2A, S2B, S2C, and for setting resistors R6 and R11. Resistors R4, R5 and R6 are preset. The thermistor R2 may be on a flexible probe for convenient use.
