[Also in Group XXXIII] An aerofoil, e.g. an aircraft wing, is made hv folding a glass cloth sheet 12, Fig. 2, impregnated with uncured polyester resin adhesive into two halves along the line 13 about a greased wooden dowel pin fitted along the edge of a wooden strip 16, Fig. 4, of tapered section, and pressing the two halves together. A number of similar impregnated sheets 12 are superimposed over the first to form a laminated skin 11, and when the adhesive has set the dowel pin is removed to leave a hole 18 along the folded edge of the skin. A second skin 11 is similarly formed and is joined to the first along its edges, e.g. by resin adhesive, after interpoising apertured ribs 19 providing the desired aerofoil section. The wing may be connected to the fuselage by steel rods passing through the continuous holes 18, but preferably notches 22, Fig. 1, are cut at intervals to form hinge tabs 23 for co-operation with similarly apertured hinge tabs 24 (not shown) formed on the fuselage, and hinge pins passed through the two rows of apertured tabs. Similarly the hinge tabs may be used for joining together two wings. The invention is stated to be applicable also to the manufacture of helicopter rotor blades.
