Abstract
862,751. Securing railway rails to sleepers. KENITRA CO. Ltd., and NERINCG, C. M. X. April 30, 1957 [May 2, 1956], No. 13596/56. Class 104 (2). A fastener for securing flange fixed railway rails 2 to sleepers 5 comprises a spring clip 11 having two bearing surfaces, one overlying the rail flange 7 and the other the sleeper 5, and a bolt 6 passing through a hole or holes at a position between the two clip bearing surfaces, the bolt 21 passing down through a hole 6 in the sleeper 5 and having at its lower end at least one radial projection 23 having one convexly curved surface about the radial axis of the projection which engages the underside of an anchor-plate 22, integral with or permanently secured to the sleeper 5 within the hole 6, for anchoring the lower end of the bolt 21 while permitting its upper end to move laterally towards and away from the rail 2, the upper end of the bolt 21 being provided with a nut 26 for tightening the clip 11 whereby the movement of the upper end of the bolt 21 allows tightening to take place without lateral constraint. The fastener 11 is provided with an upper arm 13 which engages the top of the rail flange 7 and a lower arm 14 which abuts the edge 8 of the rail flange 7. The fastener 11 is of such a width that when rotated to the inoperative position (the left-hand side of Fig. 1) parallel to the rail 2 the edges of the fastener are so spaced as to constitute location space when it is desired to replace a length of rail. The slots 6 in the sleeper 5 and a slot 24 in the anchor-plate 22 are of greater width perpendicular to the rail than parallel to the rail so as to permit the passage of the T-shaped head 23 of the bolt 21. An enlargement 28 of the hole 6 beneath the anchor plate 22 is provided with abutments 30 to limit the rotation of the bolt 21. For the purposes of insulation a rubber grommet 29, disposed around the upper end of the bolt 21, is located in the holes 15, 16 in the fastener 11 which holes 15, 16 are elongated so as to permit the bolt 21 to swing perpendicular to the rail 2. A flat rubber pad 4 is disposed beneath the rail 2 and rubber pads 20 are disposed in recesses 9 in the sleeper 5 to receive an eye 12 of the fastener 11. Specification 652,305 is referred to.
