Abstract
862,716. Reverse gear; change-speed control. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. March 10, 1959 [Jan. 5, 1959], No. 8192/59. Class 80 (2). In a bevel forward-neutral-reverse gear, for raising and lowering the scraper blade of a roadgrading machine, wherein a pair of continuously and oppositely-driven bevel wheels 12, 13 are alternatively clutched to a driven shaft 11 by a pair of independently movable dog-toothed clutched members 20, 21 splined on the said shaft, the clutch members are moved to engage the wheels by forks 24, 25 selectively shifted against centring springs 30, 31 by a collar 32 fast on a shift-rod 26 manually controlled by a lever 27, and the fork 24 has dogs 39 co-operating with further dogs 40 on the collar 21 which is actuated by the other fork 25 which dogs 39, 40 engage to positively lock the driven shaft 11 against rotation when the clutch members are both centrally positioned for neutral. The bevel wheels 12, 13 mesh a bevel wheel 14 driven by an input shaft through worm gearing (Fig. 1, not shown). A snap-ring 41 limits the centring movement of the clutch members 20, 21.
