Abstract
862,096. Control of motors; actuation of switches. MACHINE SHOP EQUIPMENT Ltd. Feb. 13, 1959 [June 3, 1958], No. 17727/58. Classes 38 (3) and 38 (5). When an electric motor is operating in a forward direction, a cam 16 maintains a resilient arm 14 out of contact with a plunger 13 so that contacts 11, 12 remain closed. The motor is stopped by reversing its supply, a relay 18 being energized by actuation of a push-button to maintain the reverse-circuit intact until the motor is braked to a standstill. This causes arm 14 to engage in slot 17, and if the motor tends to rotate in the reverse direction, the arm 14 depresses the plunger 13 to open the contacts 11, 12. The relay 18 is then de-energized to break the circuit of the motor. When the motor is restarted in the forward direction, the contacts 11, 12 are automatically reclosed. In another arrangement, the arm 14 co-operates with the underside of an annular flange during forward operation, and, when the motor approaches a standstill, the arm rides up an inclined slot in the flange and on to the upper surface. This causes actuation of the trip switch and consequent disconnection of the motor, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown).
