Abstract

862,070. Vapour burners. GROLL, R. C. Oct. 7, 1958 [Oct. 11. 1957; Nov. 30, 1957], No. 32018/58. Class 75 (1). In an oil burner the oil is vaporized in a spiral passage 8 having air inlet holes 9 and leading to a. centrifugal chamber 8a having a nozzle 17 discharging into a combustion chamber 2. At starting the spiral passage is heated by flames at the air inlets 9 but in normal operation the spiral passage is heated by radiation and conduction from the combustion chamber. The spiral. passage 8 is formed by an insert 7 located in a pot 4 and having a spiral flange 16 which contacts .the inner surface of the pot. The air holes 9 are formed in the pot 4. The nozzle 17 is formed in a cover 5 for the pot 4. A baffle 18 is mounted above the cover 5 to form therewith an air passage 20 leading to the discharge nozzle 17 from valve controlled apertures 21 in the upper end of an outer casing 6. The lower end of the outer casing has air apertures 11 controlled by a sleeve valve 10. An igniter socket 12 extends from the pot 4 to the outside of the outer casing 6 and has a pivoted baffle 14 for controlling the air flow to the pot 4. Oil is supplied by a pipe 15 to the bottom of the pot 4. An air pipe 32 with valve controlled inlets 36 extends vertically through the burner to terminate in a nozzle 33 disposed within the vapour discharge nozzle 17. The air nozzle 33 may comprise radial and axial discharge orifices or it may comprise apertures formed by punching tongues from the air pipe 32, and bending them upwardly and sidewardly. Side walls may be fitted to the tongues to form air ducts projecting from the air pipe. The air pipe may be omitted, Fig. 1 (not shown). In a modification the outer casing 6, the pot 4 and the insert 7 are of conical shape and a thermostat raises the insert, when the burner is cold, so that the spiral flange is out of contact with the pot. In another modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the outer casing 6 is omitted and the air inlet holes 9 to the spiral passage are formed in the wall of the insert 7 and the air thereto is controlled by a rotary valve on the common bottom of the insert and the pot. In still another modification, Fig 3 (not shown) the spiral passage is formed by a spiral tube having adjoining sections connected together. The air inlet holes 9 are formed in the inner. walls of the spiral tube and are directed obliquely upward.
