Abstract
861,616. Change-speed gear. ROCKWELL G.m.b.H. April 2, 1959 [April 2, 1958], No. 11175/59. Class 80 (2). A pump 1 of a turbo torque-converter W is driven by a sun 2 of a torque-splitting planetgear L, a ring gear 3 of which is driven by the input shaft and a planet carrier 4 of which is connected to a carrier 6 of a planet-gear P providing forward-and-reverse, or (Fig. 3, not shown) two forward speeds and reverse. The gearing P has a sun 7 connected to a converter turbine 9 and a ring-gear 13 connectable by a clutch 12 to an output shaft 10 and stationed by a brake 15. A brake 14 and clutch 11 selectively station the carrier. 6 and connect it to the output shaft. Forward drive is obtained with brake 15 and clutch 11 engaged, reverse with brake 14 and clutch 12 engaged. In the form giving two forward speeds, the planet carrier has two sets of planets meshing two ring gears selectively stationed to give the two speeds.
