Abstract

861,213. Lubricating chains. WILLIAMS, W. A. Sept. 15, 1959, No. 31351/59. Class 24. A transmission chain (Fig. 1) having roller links 20 and pin links 22 has felt lubricating pads 44, each of which are held in position by a metal cap 26. Each of the latter is mounted on a respective pin link. A spring 46 applies pressure on the pad 44. A shield 50 is mounted on each roller link and is shaped so as to direct oil drops back to the pad 44. In a modification (Fig. 7) the caps 26 are replaced by a continuous rubber channel 58 which has reduced thickness in the regions 60a surrounding the roller links in order to permit flexibility in passing over the sprockets. In a modification of the latter construction (Figs. 12-15, not shown), a respective metal clip is used to hold the rubber channel in engagement with each pad 44. The felt and the rubber channel may alternatively be of plastics.
