861,140. Spinning and twisting yarns &c. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 8, 1958 [Oct. 25, 1957], No. 33355/57. Class 120(2) In the production or treatment of a yarn or filament in which the yarn is continuously delivered for winding on a package and the initial non-uniform yarn is collected in a suction tube 1 adjacent the package, the delivery end of the suction tube 1 leads tangentially into a cylindrical chamber 3 having an outlet tube 2 offset from the tube 1 so that the yarn forms at least one loop within the chamber 3 and a yarn cutting means is located at the end of the suction tube or between the suction and outlet tubes. A guide rod or a cylindrical guide 4 with a spiral groove 5 may be fitted within the chamber 3. The tube 1 may have a cutting edge 7 or a blade, e.g. a razor blade, may be placed in the chamber so that a loop of yarn encloses the blade. When the yarn is entrained on the package the direction of yarn motion is reversed against the airflow and the tension of the yarn against the cutting means is sufficient to cut the yarn.
