Abstract

861,036. Valve-discharge water-wastepreventers. GUARDIAN S.A. May 28, 1959, No. 18186/59. Class 26. In a flushing cistern a control mechanism at the outflow opening comprises a valve seat for a valve member Z below which a valve stem 2 extends and co-operates with guide means Y below the seat, and flexible means, e.g. a chain 7, suspends the member Z from a lift operating lever 4 to seat it correctly when guided by the means Y. With the outflow opening is associated a water-overflow chamberforming member V into which fits a socket member X, which may be cylindrical with apertures X<SP>1</SP> for overflow water, the guide means Y being at or adjacent, its base. The valve seat may be on the chamber-forming member V or formed on the socket member. The socket member can be stirrup-shaped, a semi-circular depending portion forming guide means, or can comprise a central boss as guide means, a number of arms radiating therefrom which may be resilient, e.g. hard rubber, to be deformable for fitting the guide member into the overflow chamber. The valve member's lower portion co-operating with the seat is preferably hemispherical. In a further form the valve member has a seat of bowl shape and the guide means is below or at the base of the seating member, which has an apertured socket portion to fit into the member V. The guide means may be built into the socket portion, the valve stem 2 having the lower stop 3 as before, to limit the valve member's upward movement, and the interior of the seat member may be of hemispherical form, The seat member or its interior valve seating portion may be of, or coated with, hard rubber or other similar resilient material, and the valve member Z, as before, may similarly be formed or coated. The details of the water inflow mechanism and overflow means described in the Specification and also shown in Fig. 1 are set out in the Specification 825,736.
