Abstract
<PICT:0860955/III/1> <PICT:0860955/III/2> <PICT:0860955/III/3> An article is dip-coated by causing it to move along an epicyclic path in a vertical plane and whilst so moving to pass through liquid coating material so as to take up a coating thereof, subsequent movement along said path serving to air-dry the coating on the article. As shown (Figs. 1, 4 and 5) apparatus for dip-coating comprises a frame 10, a turning member with a hub 11 and spokes S having forked ends 12 and secondary arms 14, containers 16 one on each side of the plane of the turning-member, and a rope track 23 tensioned by a weight 25. A grooved pulley-wheel P on an axle 20 may be placed in the forked end of each spoke; carriers 22 for holding articles to be coated may be attached to the ends of the axles. The turning member is driven so that the pulley-wheels P are rotated as they bear against the rope track. If any spoke does not carry a pulley-wheel the rope track is maintained in position by an idler pulley-wheel 15 on the secondary arm. The pulley-wheels with carriers attached may be picked up by the spokes from the device 18 and are deposited after drying on the inclined plane 26.
