860,510. Corrugating tubes. TITEFLEX Inc. March 26, 1959, No. 10711/59. Class 83(4). Corrugated tubing is formed by simultaneously swaging a plurality of axially-spaced, circumferential grooves in a length of straight cylindrical tubing. Tubing to be corrugated is fed through a bore 12 in a spindle 10 to a position between corrugating dies 14 slidable towards one another and the tube between tangs 16 carried by the spindle 10. As the spindle 10 rotates, hammer members 24 bearing, through the intermediary of wedges 22, against the dies 14 are repeatedly moved in by their engagement with rollers 26 in a fixed ring 28, centrifugal force and springs 36 urging the members 24 outwardly. During corrugating a yoke 20 carrying the wedges 22 is moved axially so that the dies 14 are moved inwardly. The dies are shaped so that the thickness, axial length, and volume in a given length of the tube is the same after as before corrugating. A modified die 14b, Fig. 5, has a ridge at one end forming only a partial corrugation which is completed, when the tube is moved forwards for the next series of corrugations to be formed, by the last ridge of the die.
