Abstract
860,341. Limiter circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 11, 1957 [April 11, 1956], No. 10974/57. Class 40 (6). [Also in Group XL (b)] A four-diode network 12-15 is employed to limit both the positive and negative half-cycles of a colour television sub-carrier signal (see Group XL (b)) at a level determined by a brightness signal EE which is applied via pentodes 16, 17 to vary the potential difference between points 20 and 24 in the network. The arrangement is such that the potential difference is zero for a maximum brightness signal and increases as the brightness signal decreases. The limiter characteristic is as shown in curve 28, the level portion 29 being brought about by saturation in the diodes. The subcarrier signal is applied to the limiter via a first cathode-follower 10 and the output is derived via a second cathodefollower 30. The brightness signal at the grids of pentodes 16 and 17 is restored during blacklevel intervals by clamps 26a, 26b. The subcarrier and brightness signals may exist initially as separate components in a television transmitter or receiver, or may be produced from a common set of colour-specifying signals by suitable signal processing circuits, Fig. 1 (not shown).
