Abstract

859,082. Paper-making machines &c. SAINT ANNE'S BOARD MILL CO. Ltd. June 7, 1957 [June 12, 1956], No. 18050/56. Class 96. Pulp from a flow-box 21 flows to the wirecloth 5 of a Fourdrinier paper- or board-making machine and forms a turbulent pond 23 ahead of a tapering gap 22 between the main wire-cloth 5 and an upper, travelling wire-cloth 9 as it passes about a roll 17 which receives water from the pump and thus aids in forming the web; water expressed through the wire-cloth 9 &c. passing up a waterway or suction nozzle 19 due to its momentum &c., and into a channel 20 for removal. The roll 17 may be a suction roll, or it may have a cellular periphery, and the walls of such cells may slope so that water scooped up by them is flung towards the waterway 19. Alternatively, the roll 17 may be a skeleton roll with a wire-cloth or like covering. In a modification for a slow-running machine, in which a suction-box is used in addition to or in place of the waterway 19, the suction-box may have a sloping side to act as a waterway.
