Abstract

<PICT:0858613/III/1> <PICT:0858613/III/2> For introducing gases, vapours or liquids, e.g. a hydrocarbon oil into a fluidised reactor, a plurality of straight, perforated tubes (2, 3) are employed, said tubes being inserted into the bed (1) through pipe sections (15) incorporated into the walls of the reactor, to which said tubes are attached by means of flanges (13). Figs. 1 and 2, to which the above numerals relate, show a preferred embodiment in which two horizontal tiers of tubes are provided, said tubes being provided with manifolds 5, 7 and 9 for the supply of fluids thereto and with ceramic supports 4 for the ends remote from reactor wall. Alternatively the tubes may cross the whole reactor cross-section and be supported by water-cooled iron girders or ceramic supports. When a hydrocarbon oil is introduced through the upper tier of tubes, the lower tier may be employed to introduce steam into the bed in order to maintain fluidisation despite the coking of the oil. It is desirable to atomize liquids or mixtures of liquids and vapours by introducing them with steam into the tubes: thus pipe 9 may be employed for the steam and pipe 7 for a mixture of vaporized and liquid hydrocarbons. Centre-hole diaphragms 8 and 10 ensure that the correct amount of the gas or liquid reach the tubes and the tubes are preferably reduced in cross-section gradually or in stages away from the wall in order to maintain even distribution of the fluids. Variation of the reading of a pressure guage 12 indicates blockage or wear of the apertures of the corresponding tube, and replacement of individual tubes is readily effected by unconnecting the flanges. The tubes may be provided with resistant materials in the region of the holes. The holes may be in the form of slits.
