Abstract

The invention comprises trisazo dyes of formula: <FORM:0858556/IV (c)/1> wherein the diphenyl nucleus may be substituted, R is an arylsulphonic acid residue, R1 is a benzene or naphthalene residue, one Z is a hydroxyl group and the other Z is an amino group and the sulphonic acid groups in the naphthalene nucleus are in 3 : 6- or 4 : 6-position, relative to the amino group. They are prepared by coupling 1 mol of a tetrazotised benzidine (I) and 1 mol of a diazo compound of the benzene or naphthalene series (II) in either order of succession with 1 mol of 1- amino -8- naphthol-3 : 6- or -4 : 6- disulphonic acid and coupling the diazo-disazo compound with 1 mol of an aceto-acetylaminoarylsulphonic acid (III). Specified components are: (I) benzidine, 3 : 31 dichloro- or -dimethoxybenzidine; (II) aniline, 4- nitroaniline, 4- aminoanisole, 2- methoxyaniline -5-sulphonic acid, 4- nitroaniline -2- sulphonic acid, 4- methyl-aniline -3- sulphonic acid, 1- naphthylamine -6- or -7- sulphonic acid, 4- acetylaminoaniline -2- sulphonic acid, 2- methyl -3- chloroaniline -5- sulphonic acid and 2 : 5- disulphoaniline; (III) the acetoacetyl compounds of 1-aminobenzene -2-, -3- or -4- sulphonic acid, 4-methylaniline -3- sulphonic acid, 1- amino -8-naphthol -3 : 6- disulphonic acid, 2- amino -5-naphthol -7- sulphonic acid, 4- aminodiphenylamine -2- sulphonic acid or 1- naphthylamine -6-or -7- sulphonic acid. The dyes give green shades on leather. Examples are given. Specification 526,015 is referred to.
