A basic refractory brick has oxidizable metal frameworks 1 and 2 each comprising rectangular box-like members 3 and 4 connected by end plates 7. The latter and the outer plates of members 3 and 4 are set in the surface walls of the brick and the inner plates of members 3 and 4 extend through the brick material.
