Abstract

858,318. Davits. WELIN-MACLACHLAN DAVITS Ltd. Oct. 2, 1959 [Oct. 8, 1958], No. 32158/58. Class 78 (2). [Also in Group XXXIII] A raft or boat lowering apparatus comprises two diametrically-opposed davit arms 4 and 5 supported by a single rotatable post 1. Each arm 4 and 5 includes a fall 7 joined at one end to a raft by a quick-release coupling 8 and at the other end to a drum 15 which is rotatable through gearing 18 by hand or power means. The fall 7 is recovered from a water-borne raft by the counter-balance weight 23 adapted to rotate the drum 16 via the cable 20, the drums 15 and 16 being mounted together about a common shaft 17. The descent of the raft is controlled at a predetermined speed, by a centrifugal brake (not shown). The weight 23 may be replaced by a compression-spring which rotates the drum 15 via a rack-and-pinion.
