Abstract

1362103 Otter boards WESER AG 24 Nov 1972 [24 Nov 1971] 54433/72 Heading A1A Catch gear for fishing vessels with stern chutes includes two otter boards which are characterised by having winding drums onto which the two bridles connecting each otter board to the catch net can be winched using a disconnectable power source. In a preferred embodiment, each of the otter boards 3, 4 has two winch drums 14, 15 on the inside face each having a drive system (not shown). The drums are supported on brackets 18 which also serve to protect the drums. Considering otter board 4 only, in operation the trawl warp 2 is secured as normal while each of the bridles 7, 8 is passed through one of the holes 16, over a roller and onto drums 14, 15 respectively. When the net has been hauled in and the otter boards are lached firmly to the gallows, the power can be connected to the drums on the otter boards to enable the bridles to be winched in. The power can be hydraulic with plug in connection or mechanical using for example flexible shafts with detachable connection. When shooting the net, the procedure is reversed. The gear may include additional pennants 10, 11 connecting the otter boards with the headlines 12, 13. These pennants are detachable at the otter board end and by their use with auxiliary lines and the fishing net winch facilitate hauling in and shooting the net.
